Spotlight Samford Sports: #1 App. St. Beats Samford 35-17


Samford lost at home to top ranked Appalachian State 35-17 last Saturday, Sept 25th. The Mountaineers had 4 INT to help their cause and keep their #1 ranking.

Football headlines our sports segment this week as the Bulldogs came from behind to beat Newberry College last Thursday.  Now the Dogs are preparing for #1 Appalachian State, this Saturday at 2 pm at Seibert Stadium, to open Southern Conference play.

Football defeats Northwestern State 19-7

The Bulldogs improved to 1-1 on the season with a road win at Northwestern (La.) State, 19-7.

Samford Finishes Bulldog Invitational 2-2

assists and 15 kills.
The Bulldogs played in the 2 day tournament last Friday, September 3rd and Saturday, September 4th. Samford won the first game on Friday against Northwestern St 3-0 followed by losing a rough game to North Texas 3-1 later in the evening. On Saturday, the Bulldogs walloped Tennessee Tech 3-0 in their first match of the day then lost to the Orange of Syracuse 3-0 that night. Syracuse went undefeated for the tournament to become tournament champions.

After the Bulldog Invitational was completed, Anthony Bolus was able to interview Head Coach Derek Schroeder of Samford to hear his thoughts on the tournament.


The volleyball team will travel to Oxford, Mississippi this weekend (Sept. 10-11) for the Magnolia Invitational as they will play against the University of Louisiana, Southern Miss and host team Ole Miss.

Samford Volleyball defeats Troy 3-1

The Samford volleyball team defeated Troy 3-1 in Wednesday's home opener at the Pete Hanna Center. The Bulldogs (3-1) dropped the first set, then took the final three from the Trojans (1-3).

After the match, WVSU's Anthony Bolus talked with Samford coach Dex Schroeder.


The Bulldogs host the Samford Invitational Friday and Saturday, featuring Northwestern State, North Texas, Tennessee Tech and Syracuse.

Jimbo Fisher-ACC Teleconference

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher talks with the media about his first game leading the Seminoles - vs. Samford - Saturday at 11 am (CT) in a game televised nationally by ESPN-U. Fisher succeeds legendary FSU coach Bobby Bowden, and played at Samford under head coach Terry Bowden.
